Veritasium tops 10m views with Most Dangerous Building In Manhattan

Science and education YouTube channel Veritasium has racked up more than 10 million views on its latest video – released just over a week ago.

Entitled The Most Dangerous Building In Manhattan, the 33-minute social video tells the story of a design fault that could have caused the catastrophic collapse of Citicorp Center. Written and directed by Sulli Yost, the film uses a mix of live action and animation, with Veritasium producer Henry van Dyck presenting.

Veritasium was launched in 2012 and now has 17.8m subscribers. It currently releases around three videos a month and often hits audiences of 6-10m. Topics covered in the last year have included alien life, LSD, quantum mechanics and avalanches.

The popular channel was founded by Derek Muller – and took supporting investment from Electrify in April 2023, when its subscriber base was around 13m. Explaining why, Muller said: “Many creators aren’t entrepreneurs. I wasn’t one. I’m a scientist and educator. Electrify focuses on the business side, so I can focus on the creative side.”

At the time, Ian Shepherd, co-founder of Electrify, added. “Our investment philosophy is centred on identifying exceptional creators and helping them to reach their full potential. Derek and the Veritasium team have built an amazing brand and business.”

As with many creators, Muller has pursued diversified revenues streams. His channel generates revenue via Patreon and also has a regular sponsor, travel eSIM company Saily. In addition, he has launched a science education tool called Snatoms.
