Rollercoaster exits ITV Studios and looks to digital-first expansion opportunities

Rollercoaster Television is to relaunch as Rollercoaster Studios and transition to become a standalone business. At the same time, the former ITV Studios label is expanding its focus beyond linear into digital-first formats, podcasts and vodcasts.

The company has built its reputation around large-scale entertainment IP for UK and international broadcasters, a strategy that will remain central. However, the company said the rebrand also signals a broader push into multiplatform commissioning, with an emphasis on talent-led formats designed for digital distribution.

Rollercoaster’s founders James Fox and Dom Waugh are continuing as joint managing directors and Sarah Boyce remains as head of production. Fox and Waugh said: “We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve created so far with ITV Studios but it’s time to evolve. Our ambition for the future is to take strategic advantage of global opportunities in formats and storytelling, focusing on multiplatform audiences.

They added: “Having Sarah Boyce alongside us as head of production is the perfect complement to our creative skillset, allowing us to develop new production models and take advantage of the latest technical and AI innovations.”

Outlining the company’s digital ambitions, Fox and Waugh said: “We’re taking all our experience of building standout entertainment formats for linear television – where structure, storytelling and audience connection are key – and bringing that approach to the digital-first world. Working with new and established talent and top-tier brands, our aim is to create original formatted content that’s designed to travel and grow, serving global audiences across multiple platforms.”

The producer has had a busy 12 months, including launching the Neil Patrick Harris-fronted Netflix gameshow What’s in the Box and rebooting You Bet as You Bet on Tour for ITV1, hosted by Stephen Mulhern. Prior to founding Rollercoaster, Fox and Waugh held senior roles at Remarkable Television, where they worked across formats including The Wall, Pointless and All Together Now.
