YouTube creator and comedian Max Fosh has used a deliberately high-profile stunt to underline both the vulnerabilities of online marketplaces in Channel 4’s latest push into platform-native documentary content.
The 12-minute film, I Put Buckingham Palace Up For Rent, produced by Cardiff-based Postcard Productions, is now live on Channel 4 Documentaries on YouTube and sees Fosh successfully publish a rental listing for Buckingham Palace via a fictional agency, “MACS LETS”. The experiment, which quickly generates genuine enquiries, highlights how easily fraudulent listings can be approved and the limited friction involved in uploading content to major platforms.
The documentary was commissioned by Channel 4 Digital Commissioning Executives Catriona White and Ellie Winstanley, and is the latest short-form documentary produced for Channel 4’s social channels following recent commissions for Zandland and Recorded Time.
Beyond the stunt itself, the film reflects a broader editorial strategy from Channel 4 to use creator-led formats to tackle serious issues for younger, digital-first audiences. By blending comedy, investigation and social purpose, the documentary sits firmly within the broadcaster’s YouTube-first factual slate.
