Channel 4 distribution and partnerships senior lead Joe Harbinson is the latest in a line of digital experts to leave the UK media giant.
Announcing the news via LinkedIn, Harbinson said: “After an incredible four years at Channel 4, I’ll be moving on to something quite exciting this August (more on that when I land!). It’s definitely a bittersweet moment, as working here has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career, and we’ve done a lot!”
On LinkedIn, Harbinson said his core expertise lies in “bridging traditional media with the evolving digital landscape, ensuring that brands and media companies not only stay relevant but thrive in the ever evolving Digital /Social Media environment.”
At Channel 4, he headed up relationships with social platforms, including YouTube, TikTok, Meta, and Snap. He brought full Channel 4 episodes back to YouTube and established 4Sales’ first ‘social sales’ team, enhancing the channel’s digital footprint.
Before that, he co-founded and led the group digital team at Endemol Shine Group. This team was instrumental in creating social-first channels and revitalising globally recognised brands such as Mr Bean, MasterChef, and Big Brother on YouTube & Facebook. These efforts laid the groundwork for Banijay’s Social Video Network.
Harbinson said: “I’m incredibly proud of the initiatives we’ve kicked off and seen through to fruition; like making Channel 4 a YouTube lighthouse partner and flying the flag for Channel 4 and digital transformation on stage at industry events.”
Harbinson didn’t drop any hints about where he is going next, but added that his departure means “there’s a great opportunity for someone new to step in and carry the torch forward, keeping Channel 4 at the forefront of partnerships”.
In recent weeks, Channel 4 has also seen Matt Risley leaves his post as MD of 4Studio, while Joe Churchill exited his role as digital commissioning editor at Channel 4 – to become founder and CEO of digital content agency Fan Club.
