Google and Range Media Partners are expanding their production joint venture, 100 Zeros, with a slate of short-form vertical series, tapping established TV creators to develop projects aimed at the rapidly expanding mobile viewing market.
The initiative will span scripted and unscripted microseries, with episodes designed for quick, serialised consumption on smartphones. Titles are set to debut on the Google TV app for Android devices before rolling out to additional platforms.
Early projects unveiled include Dateable, a self-shot dating format from Mike Fleiss; Newport Beach, a scripted series from McG set in Orange County; and a dark comedic kidnapping story from Kenan Thompson and John Ryan Jr.’s Artists for Artists. Simon Fuller is also developing projects focused on music, youth culture and emerging talent.
The move reflects growing industry interest in vertical storytelling, a format that has gained momentum as studios and producers explore lower-cost, mobile-first content models. Disney+ and Fox Studios have also embraced the new format.
The slate is overseen by Range leadership executives Rachel Douglas (pictured), Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Mark Herwick, with creative led by Casey Durant and Penny Lin. 100 Zeros will handle financing, production, distribution and monetisation, while also exploring innovative production approaches tailored to vertical video.
