Content creator Tom Scott back with a new project after two-year hiatus, debuts show on Nebula

British content creator Tom Scott has returned to digital-first video publishing after a two-year hiatus, launching a new long-form series built around a nationwide filming project.

His new series, Tom Scott: England, is structured as a series of episodes filmed during a road trip through every historic county in England. Each instalment focuses on a specific story or subject encountered on location, marking a shift from Scott’s earlier short-form, single-topic videos to longer pieces typically running between 15 and 30 minutes.

Episodes are debuting weekly on subscription-based streaming platform Nebula, where the full versions are available first, before edited versions are released on Scott’s YouTube channel one week later. The staggered distribution reflects a dual-platform strategy that balances a subscription-led service with a large existing audience on YouTube, where Scott has more than six million subscribers.

Scott stepped back from weekly uploads in early 2024 after maintaining a consistent publishing schedule for a decade. During that period, his output became associated with short, factual entertainment videos covering science, geography, technology and infrastructure, often filmed on location.

The new project represents both a return to regular production and a deliberate change in format. By adopting a longer runtime, Scott appears to be responding to shifts in viewing habits, with online audiences consuming longer content on connected TVs.

The choice to prioritise Nebula for first release highlights the continued development of creator-led distribution platforms, particularly for factual and educational programming that may face constraints on advertiser-supported services. However, edited versions on YouTube allow Scott to maintain continuity with his established audience.

Alongside the new series, Scott continues to host the podcast Lateral, publish a weekly newsletter, and collaborate with the comedy group The Technical Difficulties. His return to video, however, will be closely watched across the digital media sector as an example of how established creators re-enter the market after an extended break.
