Beta Squad is riding high this week with its own take on Jubilee’s Odd Man Out format.
Over the weekend, the popular creator collective dropped a 46-minute special entitled 6 Kids vs 1 Secret Adult, in which a group of children try to work out is an adult pretending to be a child. The adults in questions are Beta Squad and they use voice modification tech to disguise their voices – while the kids wear blindfolds.
A day after launch, the video had surged past 2m views on Beta Squad’s YouTube channel – which currently has 11.1m around subscribers.
Jubilee has enjoyed ongoing success with Odd One Out on its own YouTube channel. Typically, one or two people pretend to be the same as the cohort they have been included in. Recent episodes have included Who’s the fake prom queen?, Who secretly hates Star Wars?, and Christian or Satanist?
However there is also a growing trend for creator collectives like Beta Squad and The Sidemen to use established entertainment formats as part of their channel content. Beta Squad has previously created content based around ITV Studio’s Come Dine With Me format, while The Sidemen produced a Supermarket Sweep special.
