Banijay takes Beat the Star to YouTube and Twitch with creator version

Banijay is adapting German entertainment format Schlag den Star (Beat the Star) for a live event streamed across four creators’ YouTube and Twitch channels.

Schlag den Aaron (Beat Aaron) will air on October 26. YouTubers Aaron Troschke (pictured) and Marvin Wildhage will compete against Twitch streamers Zarbex and Max Schradin, with viewers able to watch through their preferred creator’s channel.

Brainpool, which created the original format, is producing the event, while Banijay Media Germany is handling marketing. Beat the Star traditionally pits contestants against a celebrity in a series of challenges for a cash prize; the new version puts the creators at the centre of the competition.

“When I appeared in the anniversary episode of Beat the Star in February, I knew I wanted to do it again,” said Troschke. “The real studio setting, distinct personalities, and our communities watching live – that’s the winning mix.”

Christian Nienaber, managing director of Banijay Media Germany, said the production would combine “the production values and emotional appeal of a major studio show, with the intimacy and interactivity of the creator world, creating entirely new opportunities for brands to become part of the content.”

The event is the latest instance of Banijay adapting established TV IP for creator audiences – a strategy that was first seriously flagged in 2025. Its recent projects include a Fort Boyard collaboration with French streamer Domingo, Germany’s Big Brother – Knossi Edition and The Bov Boys’ 24-hour Big Brother UK livestream.
