Reports emanating from the US suggest Amazon Prime Video is preparing to greenlight two more series of MrBeast’s big budget entertainment series Beast Games, which become the platform’s most watched unscripted series ever in 2024.
After Deadline revealed that the streamer is already casting for Season 2, head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios Mike Hopkins told delegates at the Milken Institute Global Conference in Los Angeles that two more seasons seem likely. While discussing the success of Prime Video’s work with creators, he said: “We’re going to do a couple more seasons of that (Beast Games), I think, soon.”
MrBeast, aka Jimmy Donaldson, gave away $25 million in prize money in the first series, which racked up 50m viewers globally in just 25 days. He was recently quoted as saying that “another 10 seasons could happen”.
Whether the show ultimately gets an extended run may depend on the economics of the partnership going forwards. Speaking to Steven Bartlett’s Diary of a CEO podcast, he said he lost “tens of millions of dollars. It was not a good financial decision to make Beast Games. I would have more money if I didn’t film it.” The budget on the first series is reported to have been $100m, but it could rise to $150m for the next season.
