YouTube has released a report detailing its impact in the US during 2024. Headlines include the fact it contributed over $55bn to the country’s GDP. At the same time, the Google-owned platform reckons to have supported the equivalent of 490,000 jobs.
The platform said that creators earn 55% of ad and subscription revenue generated via the platform. “Through the YouTube Partner Programme, we pay creators a split of the revenue generated from ads, subscriptions, and other monetisation features on the platform. And our personalised recommendations enable creators to find audiences and grow their channels. Over the years we’ve continued investing in new monetisation options for creators beyond advertising, and today there are 10 ways they can earn money. This enables creators to hire teams and build their businesses.”
Putting that into context, YouTube said it paid more than $70bn to creators, artists and media companies in the three years prior to January 2024. It also said that “79% of small to media-sized business that use YouTube agree that it is essential to their business growth (research conducted by Oxford Economics).”
