Writer-director Salvador Paskowitz and producer Timothy “Timo” Nelligan have launched Super Punchy Studios, a new LA-based production company targeting the fast-growing vertical microdrama sector.
The company has already completed production on its debut project, Step By Step, a scripted vertical series currently in post-production and slated to premiere in May. The title will roll out as a 60-episode run and is expected to debut on a proprietary app, with development and launch scheduled for April.
The series stars established short-form performers Nicole Mattox, Seth Edeen, Molly Anderson, and Haley Lohrli.
Paskowitz, whose credits include The Age of Adaline, Ms. Purple, and The Big Everything, co-founded the venture with Nelligan, positioning the company as a narrative-focused entrant in a space often characterised by high-volume output.
“At Super Punchy, we’re not chasing the evolution of vertical storytelling, we are actively shaping it,” Paskowitz said.
The company is emphasising original IP development alongside a vertically integrated approach to production and distribution. According to Nelligan, the strategy is designed to differentiate from both traditional studios and volume-driven competitors.
“The future of this medium belongs to those who prioritise originality, ownership, and efficiency,” Nelligan said. “We are not volume-driven, we are artist-driven.”
The launch comes at a time when mobile-first, short-form serialised storytelling continues to gain traction globally, drawing increasing participation from established Hollywood studios, tech-led disruptors and digital-native talent.
