Vice Studios and Clarion Capital-backed V10 Entertainment are collaborating on a creator-led competition format called Clip Bait.
The new show is described as a “hybrid clip and competition series where the internet’s wildest, most jaw-dropping videos face off in a no-holds-barred tournament”.
During Clip Bait, online videos compete aganst each other in a tournament, with each clip being judged by a panel of content creators. The “ultimate viral champion” will then be chosen during a live finale.
The series is being executive produced by Joe Ingham for Vice Studios and John Stevens and Rick de Oliveira for V10 Entertainment. Ingham said: “This big, beautiful, bonkers format is part banter, part treasure hunt and totally participatory. We’ve turned the infinite scroll into a full contact sport, and we cannot wait to unleash it.”
De Oliveira said that Clip Bait “reimagines the clip series and reality competition formats with immediacy and energy to reflect today’s viral video audiences.”
The clip-based show is very much in V10’s wheelhouse. The company owns America’s Funniest Home Videos creator Vin Di Bona Productions and is reckoned to have a library of more than 2.8 million videos.
V10 is making a concerted drive in the direction of digital-powered content. Earlier this month it agree a deal with creator Joshua Ovenshire’s production company The Jovenshire Inc, which will see the work together on vertical content. Overnshire credits include the microdrama series Love Bombing for ReelShort.
