Jesse Burgess, co-founder of travel and food YouTube channel Topjaw, is to host an eight-part doc series for AppleTV+, the latest example of a streaming platform recruiting creator talent.
Entitled Knife Edge: Chasing Michelin Stars, the series is being produced by Gordon Ramsay’s (Hell’s Kitchen, Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares) production company Studio Ramsay Global.
Exploring the high-stakes world of international fine dining with exclusive Michelin Guide access over the course of the year-long Michelin Guide season, the series follows the fates of elite chefs at some of the world’s most celebrated restaurants to determine if they will win, maintain or lose a precious Michelin Star.
Ramsay, who is executive producing the series, said: “As a chef, the pursuit of perfection is everything, and you cannot underestimate the unbelievable drive and ambition, the determination and sacrifice these chefs are going through day in and day out, chasing the dream of acknowledgment from the Michelin Guide.”
“There’s no honour in any industry as prestigious and influential as the Michelin Star,” added Jesse Burgess. “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to tell the stories of some of the most exciting restaurants in the world — as they throw everything, including the kitchen sink, at their obsessive quest for the ultimate award.”
Knife Edge: Chasing Michelin Stars is produced for Apple TV+ by Studio Ramsay Global, a Fox Entertainment Company. Executive producers are Ramsay, Lisa Edwards and Morgan Roberts.
Ramsay has talked in the past of his desire to use Studio Ramsay Global to bring through new onscreen culinary talent. The decision to bring in Burgess is recognition of the increasing credibility of talent that has honed its skills in the social video arena.
