Glasgow-based Tern TV has been commissioned to make Findoms: Uncovered, a 1×25’ film that will air on Channel 4 Documentaries on YouTube. The one off doc was greenlit in response to Channel 4’s Nations and Regions Digital Factual Brief.
Made in partnership with Screen Scotland, Findoms: Uncovered sees presenter, journalist and model Sydney Lima investigate the world of financial domination in which men hand over cash in exchange for humiliation, power play and control.
Lima travels the UK to meet women making money from financial domination, exploring the activities these women undertake, seeing the cash roll in and discovering the highs and lows of working in this fast-growing digital subculture.
Laura Marks, senior digital commissioning editor for Channel 4, said: “The response to our Nations and Regions Factual Brief brought us so many brilliant ideas specifically for YouTube and Findoms: Uncovered is the first of a slate of new commissions.”
Lima said: “I was absolutely chuffed when Laura Marks approached me to front this documentary. My work has long been driven by a fascination with online subcultures – particularly the increasingly blurred lines between influencer culture and sex work. Thanks to Tern, we were able to get closer than ever to the world of financial domination and explore and shed light on this often-misunderstood community.”
David Marshall, executive producer at Tern TV, said: “We’re thrilled to be working with Channel 4 and Screen Scotland on Findoms: Uncovered, Tern TV’s first digital commission. Sydney Lima dives headfirst into a fascinating world, bringing curiosity and insight to help viewers understand a complex subculture. It’s a bold and exciting first step for Tern into digital, and we can’t wait for audiences to see it.”
Findoms: Uncovered airs on Channel 4 Documentaries on YouTube on Thursday October 23 from 5pm. The film was commissioned by Laura Marks, with Sacha Khari, the soon-to-depart head of digital commissioning.
