Digital Video Awards winner Spud Gun Studios is working with Melbot Studios to bring its new game GodsTV to life as an animated series. The news follows a Kickstarter campaign which smashed the initial target for the project in just 24 hours.

On LinkedIn, Spud Gun Studios said GodsTV “is a game that’s literally bursting with style, creativity and quality. The team are absolutely committed to delivering something truly special and is hyped to be involved in GodsTV’s animated form.”

Spud Gun Studios is the company behind Mashed, an adult animation channel that it operates independently having previously been under the Channel 4 umbrella. At time of writing, the channel has 5.19m subscribers.

Melbot’s Creative Director, Josema Roig, said. “GodsTV is a passion project for Melbot and finding passionate partners is a blast. Their love for humour, irreverence and the absurd makes us feel right at home with Spud Gun.”

The studio’s creative director Tom Jenkins told The Drop that the new animated series is “set in the GodsTV universe and focuses on the same story and characters as the game. It will debut on YouTube first, with the aspiration this would be on Mashed.”

Jenkins said the traditional media sector likes the fact shows have proven themselves online: “We’re finding that streaming/linear brands are far more interested in IP and shows that have performed well and already have an audience online.”
