Spanish streamer Atresplayer has become the latest company to launch itself into the red-hot vertical video/microdrama market.
The Atresmedia-owned platform has dropped Una novia por Navidad (A girlfiend for Christmas), starring Carla Flila and Marina Baeza. The streamer said it is the first company in Spain “to incorporate vertical fiction into its catalogue, aligning itself with the new habits of young audiences”.
A girlfriend for Christmas is an original production from Atresmedia in collaboration with La Charito Films. The streamer said that the 60-episode series “arrives with a fresh, sentimental, and addictive approach, designed to be consumed in vertical format with ultra-short episodes of between 1 and 3 minutes”.
The show will appear on Flooxer, an online entertainment platform that originally launched as a standalone platform but is now integrated into Atresplayer.
In the story, Sofía experiences the worst Christmas of her life: a sudden breakup, a suffocating family life, and all the romantic clichés of the season. Her only escape is Marina, with whom she forms a special connection. Told in the classic style of Christmas stories, Atresplayer said the series “promises to become one of the most viral offerings of the season”.
Atresmedia is not the only Spanish company targeting the vertical video/microdrama sector. The Mediapro Studio is also working up a slate of microdramas.
