Welsh-language broadcaster S4C has appointed Guto Rhun as digital content commissioner, a new role responsible for developing and delivering its digital and multi-platform content strategy. Rhun will work across S4C and the production sector to commission content for digital platforms, strengthen the broadcaster’s presence on services including YouTube and attract new audiences.
The appointment forms part of S4C’s ‘More Than a TV Channel’ strategy, which aims to extend the reach of Welsh-language content beyond traditional television.
Rhun has previously served as S4C’s young audiences commissioner, working on its digital content offering through Hansh and productions including Bar Hansh, GISDA: Drws i’r Digartref, Teth and Gwagle. His work has focused on reaching younger audiences and developing new talent and voices.
Rhun said: “The digital world is changing rapidly, and I see that as a huge opportunity. I want to continue encouraging creativity and ambition, creating content that feels relevant to today’s audiences and ensuring that the Welsh language thrives on the platforms people use.”
S4C chief content officer Llion Iwan added: “Guto’s appointment is an important step in delivering our More Than a TV Channel vision, ensuring that S4C reaches audiences wherever they choose to watch content and strengthening the presence of the Welsh language on the most important digital platforms.”
