BMX pro rider turned car restoration expert Mat Armstrong is trending heavily on YouTube this week. On Monday, July 14, Armstrong dropped a 50-minute video documenting his attempt to rebuild a wrecked Mercedes AMG GT63 – and within a day he had generated 2.6 million views and 124,000 likes.
Armstrong launched his MK2 channel in 2022 and is already up to 2.1million subscribers. His rebuild videos often generate views in the region of 2-3m.
Armstrong kicked off his social media career by rebuilding his girlfriend’s crashed Audi TT. While restoring cars is the focal point of his channel, he has also produced DIY tutorials and dropped videos about car modifications. Earlier this year, he posted a video about his new supercar workshop which generated 4.5m views.
UK-based, Armstrong has so far posted 101 videos on YouTube and also runs a separate YouTube Shorts channel. He has built a strong following on Facebook and Instagram – where he currently has around 1.6 million followers. Typifying the trend towards commercial diversification among digital-first content creators, he has also launched an online shop HWBT – Hard Work Beats Talent.
