Joe Harbinson has taken up a new role as head of commercial partnerships at Sky News. He joins the organisation after four years at Channel 4, where his most recent role was as distribution and partnerships senior lead.
Harbinson said he will be working with “Andrew Thompson, Jonathan Levy, David Rhodes, and the wider team to help deliver on the Sky News 2030 strategy”.
Adding some detail, he said: “Our bold ambition is to expand beyond traditional linear into a more premium, video first world, with the goal of building deeper connections with audiences and creating new commercial opportunities along the way.”
Harbinson’s core expertise to date has been bridging traditional media with the evolving digital landscape, ensuring that brands and media companies not only stay relevant but thrive in the digital/social media environment.
At Channel 4, he headed relationships with social platforms, including YouTube, TikTok, Meta, and Snap. He brought full Channel 4 episodes back to YouTube and established 4Sales’ first ‘social sales’ team, enhancing the channel’s digital footprint. Before C4, Harbinson co-founded and led the digital team at Endemol Shine Group.
