Hayley Morris drops digital first comedy drama on YouTube

Digital first creator and TikTok star Hayley Morris has written and exec produced a short comedy drama called Love & Loss, now available on her YouTube channel.

Morris, who has built up an audience of 1.82m subscribers on YouTube and 4.6m follows on TikTok, is well-known for her snappy comedy sketches. However, Love & Loss represents a step up in creative ambition, with highly-polished production values and a large diverse cast.

Morris calls Love & Loss “a comedy short where Ellie attends her mother-in law’s end of life celebration where things take an unhinged turn”. Weighing in at 4 minutes and 21 seconds, the darkly funny film sees Ellie becoming increasingly frustrated and outdspoken as her partner eulogises his mother’s many attributes and other congregation members question the quality of Ellie’s cooking.

Speaking to fans via her channel, Morris said: “You may know me a little better for my V Hotel and Me Vs Brain sketches which I really hope you love as much as I’ve loved making them. Don’t worry those won’t be going anywhere; I’ll still be continuing to make those. But this year I wanted to try something a little new – collaborating with talented artists in bringing to life some longer sketches.”

Love & Loss was written and created by Hayley Morris and Josh Pearce, directed by Mike Upson and produced by Chris Upson. The DoP was Owain Morgan and the production company MindsEye. It’s not clear yet whether Morris envisages returning to the same pool of characters for future comedy dramas.

Commenting via LinkedIn, InterTalent talent director Milly Bell, who works with Morris, said the Love & Loss creator is “one of the first creators taking the leap to produce her own scripted show with a full cast and crew.”
