TellyCast Digital Video Awards 2026 has named Geordie Stories: Nathan & Dad from MTV the winner of the Digital Original Format – TV Show Spin Off category.
The award recognises digital-first formats that successfully extend established TV brands for social and streaming audiences. Judges praised entries that balanced familiarity with originality while creating content tailored for digital platforms.
Created as an extension of the Geordie Shore brand, the four-part documentary follows Nathan Henry and his father Glen on a journey to Jamaica, Glen’s birthplace, for the first time in more than 60 years following Glen’s terminal cancer diagnosis.
Since launch, the series has generated more than 15 million views, 6.8 million minutes viewed and over 220,000 engagements across platforms. The project was developed with platform-native storytelling in mind, using YouTube for full episodes and TikTok, Instagram and Facebook for shorter, discovery-led content.
The series explored themes including Black fatherhood, masculinity, heritage, grief and LGBTQ+ identity within Caribbean culture. It was commissioned and produced by Black creatives, including Black-led indie Doc Hearts.
Judges described the project as a “smart way to bring non-Geordie fans to the show through human story”. They also called it a “touching piece of digital-first content.”
