Little Dot Studios has unveiled The Maths of Everything, a YouTube channel and podcast presented by broadcaster Rachel Riley that explores the numbers behind everyday life.

The project expands the Banijay Entertainment-owned company’s original content production offering and adds an educational entertainment brand to its network of more than 250 social channels.

The channel is set to release an episode a week, 52 weeks a year, across several formats. A 30-minute explainer show will examine the mathematics and statistics behind subjects ranging from space travel and nature to ancient history and fast food.

Other formats will feature guest interviews, data about everyday life and attempts to demystify complex equations. The show is also available as a podcast on Spotify and other platforms.

Little Dot has partnered with charity National Numeracy on the launch. Riley, a National Numeracy ambassador, has supported initiatives to build maths confidence among adults and children.

“Popular science and popular history have built huge audiences online, and maths deserves its moment too,” Riley said. “That’s exactly why we’re launching The Maths of Everything. Maths is so much bigger than what we remember from school. It’s fun, it’s fascinating, and it’s full of surprises.”

She added: “This channel puts entertainment first, and you’ll learn loads along the way. I’m delighted to be part of Little Dot’s network, and having National Numeracy as our launch partner means we’re spreading a vital message: maths is for everyone.”

Alex Hryniewicz, managing director, network social platforms at Little Dot Studios, said the company’s channel network provided data on the kinds of educational and entertaining content that could have commercial value. “Maths is an integral part of everyday life, so this show sets out to answer everyday curiosities like how to book the cheapest holidays, to more complex topics like the maths of space travel,” he said.
