Sphere Abacus has acquired digital distribution specialist Rocket Rights/Rights Booster, positioning the newly renamed Rocket Booster at the centre of its international digital expansion.
The company, which becomes Rocket Booster, a Sphere Abacus company, will lead multi-platform digital and social distribution across the combined Sphere Abacus and Rocket Booster catalogues. Traditional television sales and licensing for both catalogues will continue to be handled by the Sphere Abacus sales team.
The structure gives Rocket Booster a defined role within the enlarged business, focusing on the exploitation of content across digital platforms while drawing on Sphere Abacus’s catalogue and international sales infrastructure.
Rocket Booster has direct relationships with more than 65 VOD and FAST platforms and specialises in helping rights holders monetise catalogues across digital services.
Former Rocket Rights/Rights Booster chief operating officer Cat Davie (pictured) has been appointed managing director of the acquired company. Founder and former chief executive Matthew Frank becomes executive director. Both will report to Sphere Abacus managing director Jonathan Ford.
Sphere Media chief executive Bruno Dubé said: “We are pleased that through this deal, Sphere Abacus are not only adding talent and a content catalogue, but also expanding the capability for distributing existing content with the arrival of Rocket Booster.”
Ford described the acquisition as another step in the development of Sphere Abacus and an indication of its ambition to increase its presence in the global digital market. “We are extremely pleased to be able to harness the experience and multiple relationships that Matthew and Cat have in the digital space and to build on our success in this crucial part of the business,” he added.
Davie said: “We’re very excited to form the next part of the growth that Sphere Abacus is seeing on the global stage, and very much look forward to working with Jonathan and the team.”
Sphere Abacus is the international sales arm of Canadian producer and distributor Sphere Media. Bell Media invested in the company in May 2025.
