Netflix has struck a deal with YouTube creator Kevin Langue that will bring content from his two channels to the streaming service worldwide from September 5.
The agreement covers The Kevin Langue Show and Kevin Langue 2, with Netflix licensing a curated selection of episodes from both channels. New instalments will subsequently be released on Netflix day-and-date with their YouTube premieres.
Produced by AXEL, The Kevin Langue Show is built around guessing games and social experiments involving Langue, his comedian friends and groups of contestants. Kevin Langue 2 offers a more informal mix of games, behind-the-scenes material and unscripted interactions between Langue and his regular collaborators.
Langue has more than 13.5 million followers across social platforms and over 5.4 million subscribers to his principal YouTube channel, which has generated around 2.6 billion lifetime views. His content has also expanded beyond YouTube through an audio podcast and a recent 18-city live tour, which sold more than 30,000 tickets.
The Netflix arrangement is the latest indication of the streamer’s growing interest in talent and IP developed on YouTube. Its recent creator deals include partnerships with Mark Rober, culinary creator Nick DiGiovanni, the Stokes Twins and Alan Chikin Chow, encompassing a mixture of licensed and newly commissioned content.
Competition for creator-led programming is intensifying. YouTube has reportedly begun offering financial support for projects in exchange for exclusive release windows, as it seeks to retain talent being courted by Netflix and other streamers.
