Bell Media revamps CTV’s The Social as a video podcast style production

Bell Media is reworking Canadian daytime talk show The Social as a multiplatform video podcast for its 14th season, while retaining the programme’s weekday slot on linear broadcaster CTV.

The revamped show will continue to air weekdays on CTV and stream on Crave, while also being distributed through iHeartRadio Canada and The Social’s YouTube channel. The move reflects the growing convergence between established broadcast formats and video podcasting, with Bell Media positioning the show to reach audiences across linear, streaming, audio and social platforms.

The new version will be filmed live on The Social’s existing Toronto set but without a studio audience. Hosts Jess Allen, Andrea Bain and Cynthia Loyst will continue to discuss news, pop culture and lifestyle topics, alongside guest interviews and longer-form conversations.

“As the reach and influence of video podcasts grows globally, this evolution was the natural next step for The Social, allowing the series to expand and reach Canadian and international audiences on the platform of their choice,” said Laura Scarfo, executive producer, The Social. “Combining what’s made The Social popular with the more personal approach of a podcast allows greater opportunity for in-depth conversations and connections with audiences.”

The change also sees co-host and moderator Melissa Grelo leave The Social after being part of the programme since its launch. She will instead focus full-time on her podcast Aging Powerfully with Melissa Grelo, which features conversations and expert-led discussions aimed primarily at women.
