Ricky Gervais is celebrating the 25th anniversary of The Office with a new retrospective looking back at some of David Brent’s most memorable moments.
“Just me chatting about my memories of the show, my favourite bits and a whole lot more. Actually no more. Watch it, it’s free, so you do the math,” Gervais said.
The special sees Gervais revisit 25 standout David Brent moments, sharing personal memories from the making of the BBC comedy, along with behind-the-scenes stories and the inspiration behind some of the show’s best-known scenes and lines.
Originally launched by the BBC in 2001, The Office introduced audiences to Brent, the socially awkward manager of a paper company. The series went on to become an international hit, spawning adaptations around the world, including a US version.
The retrospective will be released on Gervais’ YouTube channel, which has more than 738,000 subscribers. Alongside archive clips from projects including After Life and his stand-up specials, the channel features original content and regular live streams where Gervais answers questions from viewers. The special is seen as a springboard for Gervais to take the channel to the next level.
The David Brent anniversary special launches today, July 8. Gervais’ YouTube channel is operated in partnership with Platform Media.
