Camera giant Canon has launched the Canon First Cut Contest, a new US-based competition designed to spotlight the next generation of digital storytellers. The contest invites creators to pitch their dream project through a short video for a chance to win a share of $100,000 in prizes—including funding, mentorship, and Canon creator gear.

Entries are open until November 21, 2025. To enter, participants must produce a video pitch of up to three minutes, showcasing storytelling and cinematic vision rather than a direct address to camera. To enter, videos must be posted on YouTube, TikTok, or Instagram, tagging @canonusa and using the hashtag #canonfirstcutcontest, followed by completing an entry form on the official Canon website.

A high-profile judging panel of top creators, including Colin & Samir, Josh Richards, Michelle Khare, and Rory Kramer, will evaluate the submissions. From there, 12 finalists will be selected and flown to Los Angeles for an exclusive screening event on December 16, where their projects will be showcased to industry insiders and peers.

Each finalist will receive Canon kit. At the LA event, four grand prize winners will receive $25,000 in funding to bring their dream project to life, plus one-on-one mentorship with one of the judges to refine their creative vision.

“Canon has a camera for every way you create,” said Canon USA in its contest announcement. “We want to see your vision, your style, and your storytelling magic on screen—and help bring it to life.”
