Tafara Makopa’s Mako Studios has teamed up with leading brands boohooMAN, JBL and Afrikana to launch two new digital-first entertainment series. Objekt is also on board as production partner on the two format-based projects.
The first series, entitled Couples Clash, sees couples go head-to-head in a series of fun and competitive challenges for a cash prize. Alongside the entertainment, the interactive format also encourages viewers at home to play along.
Hosted by Grace Ajilore, Couples Clash marks a step-change in her career. Following her performance on previous content, Mako Studios said she was offered her first full hosting role after strong audience reaction and calls for her to front a show.
The second format, 10v2, is a fresh take on the guessing game genre. Hosted by creators Manny and SV2, the show pits the duo against a line-up of 10 strangers. Their mission is to weed out the lies and deception in order to identify the one person they have been set to find. With each round raising the stakes, 10v2 combines strategy, intuition and entertainment in a way designed to keep viewers hooked.
Speaking on the growing trend of cross-brand collaborations in digital entertainment, Mako Studios CEO Makopa said it makes “perfect sense. We are going to start seeing more brands collaborating as they serve the same customers’ different needs. I am proud that Mako Studios is at the heart of this, pushing the agenda.”
Bart Frank, Objekt creative director, added: “Teaming up again with Mako for boohooMAN was a pleasure. The two series are a clear example of the valuable opportunity that digital entertainment is for brave brands. The shows are innovative, relevant and l can’t wait to see how they resonate with the audience.”
Makopa added: “It is always easier when you have brands that are forward thinking and committed to finding new ways of engaging their audience.”
Both series will premiere on the boohooMAN YouTube channel.
