Digital-first studio Goalhanger has continued its drive into Spanish football by launching a Marcus Rashford special on its soccer channel The Rest Is Football.
The special, which coincides with Rashford’s move to Barcelona, was dropped on Wednesday August 13 and passed 88,000 views after four hours. It is introduced by Gary Lineker, and contains 1980s footage as well as the interview with Rashford.
The new 40-minute film comes just a week after Goalhanger signed a three-year deal with LALIGA EA Sports, securing official rights to weekly clips from the Spanish league. These will feature on The Rest Is Football: LALIGA – a video-first edition of the hit podcast, hosted by Gary Lineker and presenter Alex Aljoe.
Tony Pastor, co-founder of Goalhanger, said: “Having acquired La Liga match action for The Rest Is Football, the next step is to build out our Spanish football content offering. Where else to start but in Barcelona and with their first English signing since Gary Lineker? Great to get two hours with Marcus Rashford.”
The Rest Is Football is best-known as a podcast but it has also racked up 406,000 subscribers for its YouTube channel. Previously, Pastor said: “Podcasting is no longer just an audio medium – video is transforming how people engage with our content and bringing in new audiences. We’re increasingly seeing fans watch the show on Spotify or stream it to their TVs via YouTube. This is the brave new world of podcasting.”
