Banijay Creators Lab seeks creators to reinvent classic TV formats

Production giant Banijay Entertainment has launched a new initiative in France which invites creators to adapt one of the company’s classic formats for social video.

Outlining the brief, the company said: “Are you a content creator who wants to take it to the next level? The Banijay Entertainment Creators Lab, in partnership with YouTube, offers you a unique opportunity: reinvent a cult French television show for YouTube. Choose one of these shows and create your YouTube version: Minute To Win It, Dilemma, 1ere Compagnie, Got To Dance and La Tete Et Les Jambes.”

Banijay said it is “up to you to make these formats resonate in your language, with your voice, your style… for a 100% digital audience.”

The production of the pilot will be funded up to €50,000, and there will be mentoring by TV format professionals. Applications are open until midnight on July 16, 2025.

The shows in question all have a track record on French TV, having aired on leading broadcasters including M6, TF1, W9, TMC and ORTF. Some of the formats are relatively recent inventions but La Tete Et Les Jambes dates back to 1960. Minute To Win It, launched in 2012, has enjoyed significant success as an international format.

There are a few criteria for would-be entrants. Most notably: “You already have two videos with over 100K views. You have a strong presence on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, or Snap.” Entrants need to adapt their format, submit it and pitch the concept. A pilot will be workshopped with Banijay Entertainment and premier on YouTube. If it is successful, Banijay may take it forward to a full series.

The project was announced in French, but it is unclear if a) it is open to non-French producers and b) if the company is planning similar schemes in other territories.
