Matt Risley announced today that he is stepping down from his role as MD of 4Studio “after five and a half brilliant years”. Risley will leave the studio later this year.
An industry thought leader who has made regular appearances at the TellyCast Digital Content Forum, Risley said it has been the “privilege of my career to launch, scale and nurture a department that has become integral to the business’s future.”
Among highlights, Risley singled out his contribution in “establishing Channel 4 as the leader in broadcaster-led social and YouTube strategy” and “helping to create dozens of job opportunities, with the vast majority based outside of London”.
In his time at 4Studio, Risley has been advocate of “trusting digital experts to lead on digital strategy, and to be allowed to innovate and experiment in the pursuit of growth”.
Risley leaves 4Studio in good shape. Earlier this week he shared a LinkedIn post saying that Channel 4 has “crossed a massive milestone, surpassing 1bn minutes viewed (completely organically, solely in the UK) across our YouTube portfolio in Q1.”
Risley didn’t say where he was going next – but hinted something is coming soon. “I’m sad to be leaving a team who are going from strength to strength, but excited by what comes next (more on that another time).”
