Peacock launches “love letter” to a new generation of social video talent

NBC Universal-owned streamer Peacock has unveiled a series of creator-led shows under its new Emerging Artists Series. Developed as part of NBCU’s Creator Accelerator Programme, the projects will debut on May 19.

All told, there are four new productions in the Emerging Artists Series. They are

The Warehouse Phase: Created by Charlie Curtis-Beard, this is a scripted dramedy about an overlooked musician who begrudgingly dives into the world of content creation. After being propelled into stardom, he has to grapple with his newfound audience, authentic self, friendships, and a rocky love life.

The Kouncil: Another scripted series, The Kouncil is created by Katie Florence, who also stars. In the series, Florence is picking up the pieces after a breakup. As she navigates friendships, romance, career setbacks, and self-worth, she constantly battles between doing what she wants and what she needs.

Older Hotter Wiser: From Serena Kerrigan, this scripted show features a young woman who is ready to take on Hollywood. But first she must get there. When a logistical mishap forces her and her boyfriend onto a chaotic road trip to LA, what starts as a simple journey spirals into a wild ride filled with unexpected detours.

People Like Me: A scripted series from Daren Vongirdner, People Like Me follows a man navigating the pitfalls of being human. Struggling with anxiety, relationships, and self-doubt, he turns to his therapist for guidance. Through their sessions, he learns to embrace life’s unpredictability, often in unexpected ways.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, NBCUniversal advertising & partnerships’ CMO Josh Feldman said: “Each series put the creator’s voice on display, and it’s taking the storytelling they’ve been publishing for years and amplified it for long form premium video. They wrote them, they produce them, they star in them as well.”

The four creators worked with Telemundo Studios and Tandem Pictures during the course of development and production. Via LinkedIn, Juan Ponce, SVP and general manager Telemundo Streaming Studios, said: “This week marks a historic milestone for our team at Telemundo Studios — announcing the premiere on May 19th of The Kouncil, our first-ever English-language original for Peacock and produced in our Miami studios. More than a show, The Kouncil is part of the Creator Accelerator programme at NBCU and Peacock Emerging Artists series, a platform for emerging artists, creators, and voices who deserve to be seen and heard. It’s a love letter to the raw talent, creative hustle, and cultural pulse of a new generation.”
